Tiffany Cavanaugh Can Bank
I think that golden syrup cans work best for this project. The resealable lid makes for a great closure and the former contents are non-toxic. As you can imagine we have a plethora of paint cans floating in and out of our house, but the paint residue is nearly impossible to remove so it isn't really child-safe. However, they work just as well. If it takes you years to get through a can of golden syrup, any can with a sturdy resealable lid is OK.

1. make sure your can is completely clean
2. cut a slot in the top of your can- with a golden syrup can
you will need a grinder and a file to take off the sharp edges
3. give the child whose bank it will be free reight to decorate
as they wish. Our son decorated his with three layers of
paint. I masked portions off using masking tape and had him
paint it to his heart's content. When I removed the masking
tape this lovely pattern was revealed.
4. make use your child has finished decorating the can before
writing on it with a permanent marker.
