Tiffany Cavanaugh Love Keychain

Everyone has left over bottle caps that they don’t think twice about throwing away, but they can be the perfect tool for creating crafts with kids. Bottle caps are easy to work with, and crafting with them is a great way to recycle. While this craft uses metal bottle caps, plastic ones can be uesd in a simlar manner. We have many metal ones come through our house and I think they have a cool shape, that’s why I chose to use these for our craft. Since we have a limited time for Creative Capers, I have done the first three steps for you.

1.      Using a hammer and a nail, punch two holes across from each other into each of three bottle caps.
2.      Paint each bottle cap a different colour
3.      After the base colour is dry, paint an I on one, a heart on one and a U on one
4.      Use 15cm of plastic twine folded in half
5.      thread the I bottle cap onto the twine.
6.      Knot the twine before threading the heart bottle cap on so that the knot is between the bottle caps.
7.      Repeat until all three bottle caps are on the twine.
8.      Finally, knot it around the keychain

Additional ideas:

** flatten the bottle caps first using a rubber mallet
**If using plastic bottle caps, use a drill to make the holes and use ribbon
instead of plastic twine
**only punch one hole in a cap then decorate as desired to make a necklace
or earings!
**fill the inside of the cap with glue and stick beads, glitter, a coin or a picture (make sure to thread your twine through first!) inside
**try squishing the caps around braided twine to make the same project without punching holes
**use a hot glue gun to glue badge pins or magnets to the bottle caps, decorating as desired
